SPRING
MARCH
AT LAST the first day of meteorological Spring is 1st March. We've almost made it through the days with just 8 hours of daylight! Everything in the garden is coming alive. This month enjoy the last of the snowdrops and aconites, and await the burst of colour from your daffodils, muscari and early tulips. Colours are starting to emerge in every corner of the garden.
Plant of the Month: It has to be Daffodils!
Here's afew things we have been doing in our own, and our client gardens that you can do too;
- Check for frost damage on all plants and shrubs. Cut back any affected branches and stems.
- Weed and tidy your borders before the growing season for weeds begins!
- Plant begonia, dahlia and anemone corms and tubers, but keep them frost free. These will grow on to bring vibrant summer borders.
- Lift and divide herbaceous plants on a dry day.
- Almost the last chance to prune back your roses as dormancy is ending. It's a good time to plant any new roses too.
- Mulch your borders as it acts as a weed deterent.
- Deadhead daffodils but do not cut back the foliage.
